Accessibility statement
We want every dog lover to be able to use becausewearedoglovers.com, including people with disabilities and people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice control or a keyboard only.
Our standard
We aim for this site to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. WCAG 2.2 AA includes everything in WCAG 2.1 AA, the technical standard referenced by the U.S. Department of Justice for web accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and widely used as the benchmark for ADA compliance.
We don't use an accessibility "overlay" widget. Instead, accessibility is built into the site's code and design.
What we did
- Keyboard: everything works with a keyboard, focus is always clearly visible, and a "Skip to content" link appears first.
- Screen readers: pages use proper headings, landmarks and labels. Images have text alternatives, and links that open a new tab say so.
- Color and contrast: text meets the WCAG AA contrast ratio (at least 4.5:1, or 3:1 for large text) in both light and dark mode. Color is never the only way information is shown.
- Zoom and small screens: the layout adapts from phones to large screens, and text can be zoomed to 200% without losing content.
- Motion: if your device is set to reduce motion, animations are turned off. Nothing on the site flashes.
- No surprises: the page never reloads or changes on its own - when a new pick goes live, you get a link to show it.
- Tap targets: buttons and links are large enough to tap easily.
How we check
We test every page against WCAG 2.2 AA with automated testing (axe-core), check color contrast in light and dark mode, and test keyboard navigation and zoom. We re-check whenever we add new pages or features.
Known limitations
- Product links take you to Amazon, and community links take you to Facebook. Those websites are run by other companies, and we can't control how accessible they are.
- Product photos come from Amazon. The product name is used as the image description.
